Making It

An old cow house, 7 years of intense study, and a small bank loan are what started up Nicholas Mosse Pottery, 43 years ago.  Oh, and I forgot to add 12 hours of work six days a week for all those 43 years, and I mustn’t forget the fantastic local staff who joined in the endeavours and became master craftsmen!

So now there is a newly renovated 5 story mill, powered by hydro electricity and containing all sorts of spaces for making pottery (and our shop), there is a 50 year history behind Nick Mosse the potter, there are still bank loans (!), and there are around 45+ crafts people working hard to produce Nicholas Mosse Pottery.

A big percentage of our staff love what they do and are proud of their work; perhaps that’s why our customers also love our pottery.  It’s never easy to make as the processes we use are totally uncommercial, totally handmade from clay to finished article.
