To keep it as beautiful and pristine as possible, we recommend that you follow the following advice:
• Avoid rough handling and sudden changes in temperature as this may cause the appearance of fine lines on the surface known as crazing. Crazing does NOT affect the life or the usefulness of the pottery, and some people feel this adds to the character and appeal of the pottery. It is nothing to worry about.
• Our pottery is dishwasher safe; please stack it carefully to avoid knocking.
• Our pottery is microwave safe but continuous use should be avoided.
• Stubborn stains may be removed by soaking in a mild bleach solution.
• For our ovenware pottery (and also our tabletop ware), avoid metal scourers or harsh abrasives.
• Only use our special Nicholas Mosse Ovenware in your oven, avoid direct heat and do not use on a hob or near a naked flame.
All Nicholas Mosse products are well packed in ecologically friendly, recycled packing. Insurance is included in the shipping charge.

I like the size and always love the design. The lid doesnt quite fit straight on the dish but it is handmade and I am happy with that. Im adding to a collection that started with a lovely wedding gift of a bowl and large serving plate

I’ve collected NM Old Rose for years and the additional pieces are just beautiful. We visited the studio in Bennetsbridge in 1999 and now feel a special connection to this pottery. I love that the pieces are personalized with the initials of the artisans. I’d love to see profiles on the craftsmen on your website!

Bought this for myself. I buy Amish butter by the roll and it will fit perfectly in the butter jar. Your work is amazing and I’m so pleased to have something from Ireland where my grandfather’s family began. ❤️

Excellent service and prompt delivery. The products are beautifully crafted, the artisans should be proud. I visited your pottery and tea shop the last time I was in Bennettsbridge, which is where my family came from originally. In fact, when the mill was still operating, my grandfather had worked there as a carpenter, and one of my uncles was the accountant. I intend to return one day.
Kind regards

Much prefer this to my previous butter dish which was the other way around (saucer base with a dish on top) as nothing can get in it so it stays cleaner for longer) I like the little sprig detail on the lid although my husband keeps putting it on upside down 🙃

I love Nick.Mosse pottery.
I would recommend a review of the actual shape of it by the pottery makers. Living in Ireland all butter blocks are the same size, the shape of the large butter block should fit perfectly in this dish but funny enough it actually needs to be pressed in to fit. Strange considering it has been made for that purpose!
That is my only negative feedback but it is quite substantial consider what purpose the pottery should fulfil.

It’s not obvious how big it is from the website- however I’m really pleased with it. My husband questions if it is a butter dish but I reckon it’s a perfect size and hope he won’t drop and break it on our ceramic floor tiles!
I still love the pattern after quite a few years of collecting- it doesn’t go out of fashion!
Denise B.5/5Verified
This is a nice size - holds a pound of butter!

How this product is made
Every piece of Nicholas Mosse undergoes a 20-step, handmade process.
Basic Forming
Clay comes from the ground and we mix different sorts of clays to create our own, high quality earthenware. We dig, blunge, sieve, filter and pug the clay to form extruded logs of wet clay, which are then cut into the exact size and weight for each item. The thrower takes this lump and centers and forms it on an electric potter’s wheel.
Wet Clay or Greenware
The little jug body is dried to a "leather hard" stage, and then a handle is attached to it with a glue-like substance called slip. Small imperfections are fettled and cleared away to make the pot ready for the next stage.
Slip Dipping
When it reaches a very particular level of hardness, the little jug can be lowered into the liquid slip bucket. This type of slip is made from our same clay but with more water and less iron, to make it whiter. The slip is viscous and makes another pot cleaning necessary.
Bisque Kiln Firing
Once again the jug needs to harden even more, so it can withstand being stamped with our Nicholas Mosse logo. It then waits for its turn in the kiln and receives a first firing or ‘bisque’ firing, which removes all water from the clay and makes it hard and ready to decorate.
Decorating
Nicholas Mosse Pottery has a large group of shapes, from mugs to plates to bowls, which are all hand decorated in one of our 10 or so patterns. Each motif is applied by hand, one at a time, in different underglaze colours. The pots are then dipped into clear glaze and fired again.
