Our Chef Set is the ultimate piece of kitchen pottery! In fact, we designed the nesting bowls to be perfect for cooking up a storm. That's why each piece is carefully hand-crafted in our Irish Pottery, to create durable yet beautiful kitchen ware.
The set includes four of our favourite pottery patterns, each hand-painted to complement one another. Measurements: Clover (green) - 2cm h x 4cm dia (0.8"h x 1.6", Old Rose (blue) 2.5cm h x 7cm dia (1"h x 2.7" dia), Apple (red) 3cm h x 9cm dia (1.2" h x 3.5" dia), Clematis (dark red) 3.5cm x 12 cm dia (1.4" h x 4.7" dia).
To keep it as beautiful and pristine as possible, we recommend that you follow the following advice:
• Avoid rough handling and sudden changes in temperature as this may cause the appearance of fine lines on the surface known as crazing. Crazing does NOT affect the life or the usefulness of the pottery, and some people feel this adds to the character and appeal of the pottery. It is nothing to worry about.
• Our pottery is dishwasher safe; please stack it carefully to avoid knocking.
• Our pottery is microwave safe but continuous use should be avoided.
• Stubborn stains may be removed by soaking in a mild bleach solution.
• For our ovenware pottery (and also our tabletop ware), avoid metal scourers or harsh abrasives.
• Only use our special Nicholas Mosse Ovenware in your oven, avoid direct heat and do not use on a hob or near a naked flame
All Nicholas Mosse products are well packed in ecologically friendly, recycled packing. Insurance is included in the shipping charge.
I ordered this chef set for my grandmother. I was able to request a personal note be added via email. The set was very well packed and all the bowls are beautiful. She was very happy ♡
Just to note, these bowls are small so think of them as handy little jam / spice/ nuts holders instead of larger mixing bowls or cereal bowls
This set of little bowls is the most useful and pretty addition to the kitchen. I’ve found so many uses for the sizes of the bowls I bought a second set. They can be used for sauces and other small amounts of liquid. A very fine set. Lovely as a gift.
I saw a recipie on Instagram of a lady using the Nicholas Mosse chef set and just had to have it! Absolutely love it, gorgeous to look at and to use. Makes a change from boring cup measures !
I buy my daughter a piece of your pottery every year for Christmas. We love the variety but are sad that some of our favorite designs are no longer made!
Otherwise very happy
It is so very pretty i just love it! Going to get another to give as presents the nest of bowls is so delightful 💖 I might not be a great enough chef to know how to use the smallest bowl except to enjoy looking at it. Love everything I get from Nicolás Mosse!
I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for the quality you take when packaging your goods, I’ve never once had an issue with a product we being broken or damaged in anyway from deliveries and know whenever I do order it will arrive in one piece. That level of care has made me a repeat customer and your team for shipping should really be commended for how great a job they do.
This is such a fabulous present to receive and give. My sister Mary gave it to me as a present. It has been admired by every discerning guest who has seen it in my kitchen. I have since given too gifts of it to family and friend.
A Nicolas mosse devotee for many many years! I have a beautiful collection in my home! I buy as presents as well. These stunning pieces make wonderful gifts. My daughters are now fans!
I purchased two of these as I couldn’t resist one for myself. The other is an Easter gift for my daughter. I live the variety of colours. They are perfect for holding vinegars, oils and dips on a summer table or for holding ingredients at-the-ready when baking. When not in use they are beautiful on display in my kitchen shelf. These can’t hide in a cupboard - they’re too gorgeous for that.
This was a gift for my Aunt who adores baking. To say she was over the moon is an understatement. Each bowl was fabulously made and such a unique pattern. Thank you so much for such gorgeous quality gifts!
Chef set very versatile either preparing or serving food.
I have purchased a few of these sets as gifts and are always very well received. They compliment wide range of NM patterns also.
“Chef set”??? Well unless the chef is a tiny leprechaun I can’t imagine what s/he would use it for. All the bowls are TEENY tiny. One no bigger than an egg cup
A lovely collection of bowls which look very well and are very useful either for cooking or serving. They stack together beautifully saving space in your cupboard. As always they came very well packaged. I would never have any fear ordering anything they are always so well protected.
Every piece of Nicholas Mosse undergoes a 20-step, handmade process.
Basic Forming
Clay comes from the ground and we mix different sorts of clays to create our own, high quality earthenware. We dig, blunge, sieve, filter and pug the clay to form extruded logs of wet clay, which are then cut into the exact size and weight for each item. The thrower takes this lump and centers and forms it on an electric potter’s wheel.
Wet Clay or Greenware
The little jug body is dried to a "leather hard" stage, and then a handle is attached to it with a glue-like substance called slip. Small imperfections are fettled and cleared away to make the pot ready for the next stage.
Slip Dipping
When it reaches a very particular level of hardness, the little jug can be lowered into the liquid slip bucket. This type of slip is made from our same clay but with more water and less iron, to make it whiter. The slip is viscous and makes another pot cleaning necessary.
Bisque Kiln Firing
Once again the jug needs to harden even more, so it can withstand being stamped with our Nicholas Mosse logo. It then waits for its turn in the kiln and receives a first firing or ‘bisque’ firing, which removes all water from the clay and makes it hard and ready to decorate.
Decorating
Nicholas Mosse Pottery has a large group of shapes, from mugs to plates to bowls, which are all hand decorated in one of our 10 or so patterns. Each motif is applied by hand, one at a time, in different underglaze colours. The pots are then dipped into clear glaze and fired again.
