To keep it as beautiful and pristine as possible, we recommend that you follow the following advice:
• Avoid rough handling and sudden changes in temperature as this may cause the appearance of fine lines on the surface known as crazing. Crazing does NOT affect the life or the usefulness of the pottery, and some people feel this adds to the character and appeal of the pottery. It is nothing to worry about.
• Our pottery is dishwasher safe; please stack it carefully to avoid knocking.
• Our pottery is microwave safe but continuous use should be avoided.
• Stubborn stains may be removed by soaking in a mild bleach solution.
• For our ovenware pottery (and also our tabletop ware), avoid metal scourers or harsh abrasives.
• Only use our special Nicholas Mosse Ovenware in your oven, avoid direct heat and do not use on a hob or near a naked flame
All Nicholas Mosse products are well packed in ecologically friendly, recycled packing. Insurance is included in the shipping charge.
Love the farm mugs plates and jugs
Older ones have the thin lip that is so good when sipping early morning coffee. I do not like the new pattern for farm mugs and wish the farm house was still available in old large mug pattern.
Just HAD to get this one for my baby bro, especially to comemorate his 1st trip to Ireland and our stay on a sheep farm in Carnew. I’m totally addicted to the expertise & skill of Nicholas Mosse’s crafters. Greatest pottery in the world 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I ordered one of your sheep mug recently. I got excited because I didn't think I could ever find that mug again. Mind you, this particular mug as been in my family for more than 20 years, but, as I discovered, when my parents ordered it, it arrived broken, my dad had to mend it, and after that, it was never used to drinking beverages. So I thought to myself, what a thoughtful gift to acquire a new mug than my dad could finally drink out of! In my family, we all loved the particular thiness of the rim of the original mugs we possessed (the sheep one, unused, the strawberry mug and the blueberry mug), but what a disappointment to discover that after all these years, your rim has become so thick! I figured it might be to avoid the kind of accident that happened to my parents when shipping your mugs but... I'm sure you know the importance of a thin rim when drinking tea. I'll still be happy to be able to present this gift to my father but I'm not sure that I'll buy more mugs from you...
(This time, the packaging for transport was top class, no complain at all)
I purchased replacements for 2 mugs that I had damaged. This is my favorite pattern and I’m so glad they were still available. I have every piece in the Sheep pattern and am hoping there will be additional pieces made 🐑🐏🐑🐏
I got it for my partner so that she would have one to match the one I have, which I got almost 20 years ago in a shop in Madison, CT, USA, that used to sell Nicholas Mosse products. I also enjoy the use if 6 of the smaller barnyard cups, as well as a sugar bowl and creamer, plus a Nicholas Mosse clock with the same animals.
For many years I have been collecting Mosse cups, small and large. Recently someone chipped the rim of my favorite large cup. I replaced it with one that was beautiful, but not as elegant and delicate as the old ones. I was disappointed. It was thicker and not as lovely as those in my collection.
I ordered as a gift (that's already been shipped!). The mug cam wonderfully packaged - lots of bubble wrap/padding. Very well done - marked fragile. I unwrapped to make sure all was well - it was! Thank you Nicolas Mosse for a beautiful gift shipped with care from Ireland!
The product arrived punctually and intact. The mug is a replacement for one which was broken. It is just as nice as my previous mug and the variations in the motif show how individual each piece of Mosse pottery is.
Bought my first sheep mug in Lahinch six years ago, loved it, used it often, and when I dropped and broke it recently, my heart broke, too. So glad to have a replacement, which I will handle more carefully.
I sent this mug as a thank you gift to a gentleman in Germany! It was easy to place the order and the delivery was efficient and on time! A pleasure as always to deal with Nicholas Moss!! It is such a pleasure to support premium Irish products! 🙏💃👊
I had 6 one disappeared after a rather large party and one got broken same day. So I now have bought anotherv2, got my 6, sugar basin, milk jug, cake plate. All out now for our lambing season.
I absolutely ADORE Nicholas Mosse pottery! I purchased my first mug when I visited Ireland five years ago at Kilkenny Design in downtown Kilkenny. When my mom and I returned to Ireland for a vacation this past October, I excitedly took her to Kilkenny Design to purchase another mug. Unfortunately, Kilkenny Design didn’t have the shamrock mug I wanted, but I purchased the beautiful fuchsia mug. One of the retail ladies at Kilkenny Design mentioned the sheep mug, but we couldn’t find it any stores, and we had no idea we just minutes away from the Nicholas Mosse retail store. I purchased this mug for my mom for Christmas, and it arrived safely packaged and very quickly (it took about a week to ship to Texas)! I’m excited to enjoy this mug for many years to come!
Hello,I bought your mugs in Kilkenny many years ago.I found your creative design ,items and quality of pottery beautiful and so suitable for my country home. Many thanks and regards.
Very speedy processing and delivery!! Thank you!! Very sweet mug! I bought one in Northern Ireland 15 years ago just like it- it’s almost the same- not quite- but I love it!
These mugs are perfect for hot drinks. The handle stays cool. The cup never slips out of my husband's hand! He is 93 years old. We bought our first ones many years ago and were thrilled to look up the web site and order them so easily.
This mug is gorgeous and is for my brother in law in Ireland, who has just got a flock of sheep.
A star is lost as I have bought so much of NM pottery this year as I love it, but I have been sent seconds on a good few occassions. They have sent me new pieces since but maybe they are so busy that these pieces are slipping through the net...
I have juat purchased a large bowl in the 20% off sale online and really hoping this isn't a seconds sale as that wasn't stated...
Otherwise ...their product is amazing and their designs are stunning...
We have been collecting NM pottery since our first trip to Ireland in 1995. The patterns are contemporary but reference hand thrown pottery of Ireland's past.
Especially like Sheep pattern here on our sheep farm in Vermont.
Every piece of Nicholas Mosse undergoes a 20-step, handmade process.
Basic Forming
Clay comes from the ground and we mix different sorts of clays to create our own, high quality earthenware. We dig, blunge, sieve, filter and pug the clay to form extruded logs of wet clay, which are then cut into the exact size and weight for each item. The thrower takes this lump and centers and forms it on an electric potter’s wheel.
Wet Clay or Greenware
The little jug body is dried to a "leather hard" stage, and then a handle is attached to it with a glue-like substance called slip. Small imperfections are fettled and cleared away to make the pot ready for the next stage.
Slip Dipping
When it reaches a very particular level of hardness, the little jug can be lowered into the liquid slip bucket. This type of slip is made from our same clay but with more water and less iron, to make it whiter. The slip is viscous and makes another pot cleaning necessary.
Bisque Kiln Firing
Once again the jug needs to harden even more, so it can withstand being stamped with our Nicholas Mosse logo. It then waits for its turn in the kiln and receives a first firing or ‘bisque’ firing, which removes all water from the clay and makes it hard and ready to decorate.
Decorating
Nicholas Mosse Pottery has a large group of shapes, from mugs to plates to bowls, which are all hand decorated in one of our 10 or so patterns. Each motif is applied by hand, one at a time, in different underglaze colours. The pots are then dipped into clear glaze and fired again.
